Pretty woman

by Rachel A. Gold

Well, look at us - I had advantages,
A silver gown, accessories to match,
And she had just a simple home spun dress
Of white, and at the side a tiny patch;
And I had shining hair and glowing eyes,
And intellect superior, with all,
Her hair was simply braided, and her shy
Brown eyes admiring, and her stature tall;
A goddess of the woods she seemed, and I,
Small, slender, and quiet pretty, so they said -
He came, a flame of stately manliness,
Fine mixed with wit, a proudly upflung head;
He chose - It seems that my advantages
Lost out beside her wisdom of the ages.
