The Balloon

by Rachel A. Gold

My father said "Look here and you
Will see a sight quite soon!"
And when we asked him, he remarked
"It's a big hot-air balloon!"
And so we waited and we saw it rise
And soared up toward the sky
And we all wished that we could get close
But were just too small to try -
The balloon came down quite suddenly
And landed on the ground -
And there we ran so eagerly
And this is what we found -
Inside a fence some chickens lived
They cowered in their home
The rooster came out very brave
To see what thing had come -
Then someone came and took away
The big balloon and then
The chickens came outside and they
Began to eat again.
