My Head is Old

by Rachel A. Gold

My head is very old and wise -
My heart is young and free -
My head says - O - believe your eyes -
You are not fair - do not surmise
That you can loved be -
But my vain heart - on wings of song
Leaps upward toward the light
And carols "There - there I belong -
O, foolish head, you are so wrong -
Ah - let me leave my night!"
