Through a Window-Glass

by Rachel A. Gold

You told me the reason, I listened in tears,
For deep in my heart I could see,
How aching and empty and endlessly years
Had been passing for you and for me.

I asked you a question, you told me a lie,
For, deep in the long, long ago,
I'd thought it impossible ever that I
Should find you relieved when I'd go.

The answer was easy, and now your explain--
How happy we are at the last!
How fortunate that we're together again
And all or our troubles are past!
